A few tips
Sterling silver, also called 925 silver, oxidizes in contact with ambient air. Since it is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper, copper causes it to oxidize by reacting to moisture in the air.
Tips to help you maintain your silver jewelry:
– Store your sterling silver jewelry in a place with low humidity. Never leave them in the bathroom.
-Store your jewelry individually in airtight bags (small Ziploc).
-Wear your jewelry often. Friction with the skin and contact with the natural oils will help protect and cleanse them.
– Clean your silver jewelry with a silver polishing cloth. Clean them often to save yourself hours of cleaning in the future.
-Avoid wearing your jewelry at the pool or in the spa. The chlorine and chemicals used in these places can oxidize your jewelry. These substances can also degrade your pearls which will become dull.
-Avoid wearing your jewelry in the shower. Humidity will cause oxidation to appear very quickly. Soap or shampoo can also accumulate in your chain.
– Put on your hair styling products, perfumes, deodorants, lotions and makeup before putting on your jewelry.
